Case Study: Century City, May 2013
I was called into a home in Century City, California, by a gentleman named Andy. Andy actually worked with the City of Los Angeles and had a very nice multi-level condominium in the area of Santa Monica Boulevard. He’s asked us to figure out how the water is getting into his home. On the upper level was an entire deck. This deck had needed to be recoated for some period of time. The problem with this deck, as in many homes, has waterproofing issues because it’s made of an acrylic material that needs to be constantly maintained on a yearly or bi-yearly basis. This had not been done, so the deck needed to be replaced. We had to replace the deck, plywood, flashing, drainage, and reinstall a new waterproofing system. We used a five part complex waterproofing system on this deck, which comes with a five year renewable five year warranty. This product has been on several decks over the last 25 years done by our company, including ski resorts, water parks, and otherwise where it gets the maximum amount of abuse by the UV of the sun. This project is now complete, the owner is happy, and the home is water wise proofed.
